Coconut Birthday - Story

As the holy month of Ramadan is approaching, many families are starting to prepare for Eid. As we approached our friends to share highlights from their childhood celebrations, we heard of a lovely custom that will delight all children. Our friend, Sarah, shared how children from the Bohri community celebrate two birthdays. The 'Cake Birthday' is celebrated according to the Gregorian calendar, and the 'Coconut Birthday' is celebrated according to the Islamic 'Hijri' calendar.  Today's story is set around the Coconut Birthday.
